An introduction to web design using Dreamweaver CS5. You will investigate basic site planning, including target audience, site layout and creating content, produce a simple website with page navigation and graphics and download the site to use in a browser. This course is accredited as an Open College Network Level 1 qualification.
You should be computer literate and have experience of using the Internet. Familiarity with file management is essential (you must be able to create a folder and navigate through Windows Explorer) and you should be competent with using the Windows GUI.
Access to the Internet from home or at work would be useful
Your course will include the following:
• The principles of web design
• Introduction to the Dreamweaver environment
• Structuring webpages using tables
• How to change text format
• Creating links to email and other web pages
• Using lists and tables in a webpage
• Including images in a web page
• Using a template to create a website
• Making your first website
You will create a basic website using a standard scenario.
Learners will be assessed i) informally as they progress through the course
ii) formally through practical demonstration of skills. This is a level 1 course and all student work is externally moderated by the relevant board.

Full attendance over the course is necessary to meet the requirements of the OCN unit.
This course leads naturally onto the Web Technologies Diploma full-time (3 days a week, 11 weeks) course. Additionally a number of stand-alone courses are offered by RACC including;

Enrolment is best carried out online. If you prefer to enrol in person, you can enrol at either the Clifden or Parkshot centres. 1. “How much homework will I need to do outside of class?”
Some written exercises may need to be undertaken in your own time.
2. “What will happen if I miss a class?”
If it is unavoidable that you miss a class you must notify the tutor at the earliest time. The tutor will endeavour to help you make up for the lost time, but the responsibility for this is with the student.
